Our client is a small animal practice based in East Grinstead, West Sussex. Their OOH is outsourced to another practice with our phone lines being diverted at 7pm. They are looking for either a full time permanent nurse or an ongoing locum.
They have a friendly team of 7 vets and 9 nurses with a wide range of interests resulting in a fair amount of orthopaedic cases along with frequent use of endoscopy and ultrasonography. They also have an internal lab covering biochemistry and haematology. They are a registered training practice with 3 students and encourage nurses to become clinical coaches if interested.
The nurses' rota is a based around a 37.5hr week average with 1 in 5 weekends (no OOHs) and 1 in 7 Saturday mornings. An average weekly rota would consist of the below: -
2-10:30pm (inpatient care)

8-6:30pm (Theatre shift)

They run a Saturday morning clinic (8am-12pm) with a nurse working 8am - until 2pm. Inpatient care is divided between the vet and the nurse, with nurses able to go home inbetween if they wish. This continues into Sunday with nurses able to come and go to check patients as suitable and discussed with vet. If there are no inpatients (it does happen now and again!) nurses are able to clear up and leave without returning for the remainder of the weekend. This shift is currently run on a 1 in 5 basis.
They also have a Saturday morning shift (1 in 7) this is a 7:30-2pm shift and involves inpatient care and assisting during clinic hours.
