We have a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic and dedicated Head Veterinary Nurse to join a supportive and close-knit team in Middlesex. This is a great opportunity for an experienced Head Nurse or RVN looking for a step up.

The position will consist of both medical and surgical patients, pre and post-op, assisting vets in both prep and theatre, stock control, pharmacy and lab work, as well as reception duties such as handling calls and emails, welcoming clients and organising the customer flow to optimise the use of the vets’ time.

The Role

  • Head Nurse / Assistant Practice Manager – full-time permanent position
  • 5 days a week with a day off in lieu when working a weekend, all based on a rota system, 9 hours a day with an hour lunch
  • There would be NO out of hours
  • 1:2 weekends for this to go to 1:3 when they get another staff member

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Answer and triage phone calls and emails from clients
  • Schedule appointments and procedures
  • Identify and work compassionately with clients in various emotional states
  • Client call backs
  • Use of Idexx lab station
  • Assisting vets during surgery
  • Preparing prescriptions
  • Monitoring hospitalised pets
  • Assist in cleaning the hospital including but not limited to: keeping reception desk area and lobby clean and sanitary, taking out the general waste and recycling, laundry, cleaning floors, bathrooms, exam rooms, kitchen and kennels as required
  • Process payment and deposit transactions
  • Maintain proper documentation in the electronic medical record
  • Relay appropriate information between clients, doctors, and management

Computer Skills

  • Able to use Windows and Mac based computer systems, word processing,
  • email, web search and other skills

You will:

  • Be down-to-earth and enthusiastic with a genuine interest in animal welfare
  • Have very good experience of veterinary nursing
  • Have excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Be an effective team player
  • Have a systematic approach when making decisions and be able to carry out the role effectively with planning and organisation

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary between 30,000 -35,000 depending on experience
