We are looking for an experienced nurse who, along with the usual day to day duties of an RVN can also help the head nurses with the daily running of our client’s practice.

They are a busy small animal hospital that are looking for someone to assist the head nurses in leading a positive and thriving nursing team.

About The Role

Duties of the Deputy:

  • Day to day running of the Small Animal Department
  • Ordering of drugs or equipment.
  • Support member for nursing team.
  • Manage any problems or disputes in the Head Nurse absence.
  • Manage and record any absences in the Head Nurse absence.

As well as Deputy Duties, some of the daily nursing duties include:

  • Nursing day and hospitalised patients.
  • Supporting our vets with surgical and non-surgical procedures.
  • Carrying out diagnostic and dental x-rays.
  • Carrying out Laboratory analysis.
  • Assisting with ultrasounds, CT scans and endoscopy.
  • Assisting with laparoscopic procedures.

The Rota and Salary

Shifts are varied throughout the week with a combination of early and late shifts.

  • Early (07:00-15:30) and late (11:30-19:30).
  • 08:00-16:00 shifts consist of theatre, prep, and non-surgical operations.
  • 10:00-18:00 shifts are nursing consult shifts with a variety of puppy/kitten checks, senior and diabetic clinics and POCs, etc.
  • Weekend shifts comprise of Saturday only, generally 8am-4pm.
  • No Sunday or Night work required.
  • Salary for this role is up to £30,000 depending on experience.

About The Practice

Our client’s practice is a large practice with a Small Animal Hospital and an Equine and Farm department. Amongst the small animal department, a variety of diagnostic equipment is available including a digital x-ray machine, CT scanner, endoscopy, ultrasound machine and a variety of diagnostic lab equipment.

They have separated kennel wards for Dogs, Cats and Exotics with an Isolation unit and Critical Care ward.

Additionally, they have two operating theatres where they perform a variety of procedures including routine neuterings, laparoscopic procedures including spays.
