We are currently looking for locum vet to cover shifts at a small animal practice in North London starting ASAP ongoing.
" Locum vet position
" Start Date: ASAP
" Ongoing role
" Full-time hours
" 1 in 3 Saturdays
" 1 in 6 to 1 in 8 on call weekends
" 1 - 2 Bank Holidays to be worked
Each vet does one night on call a week, - the shift begins at 1pm (so you have a morning off) and then work through until 10pm seeing appointments & helping with procedures at the main hospital after which you are on call for the night until the day shift begins the following morning. The nurses take the phones and triage cases, and the vets are able to go home during the night if they live close enough to get to the hospital within 20 minutes overnight.
The vets also have a half day each week - the day / finish time is not guaranteed but people have usually completed all their work by 1-2pm. You are expected to call clients with updates/ to answer queries, report new lab results etc, & check your mail before leaving.
The vets also work on average one Saturday in three - one of these is at branch surgeries, consulting during the morning & early afternoon. The other Saturday will be at the main hospital, & this continues after consulting on Saturday into a full weekend on call (1 in 6 to 1 in 8 weekends). At least one nurse works alongside the duty vet all weekend, day and night. When working a full weekend stay on until 11am Monday morning to finish 'sorting out' in-patients & ensuring clients are updated & cases handed over to other vets properly. You then have the rest of Monday off & an additional day off later in the week in place of your normal half day. When possible, the day off will be Friday, so you will have a long weekend off following the one spent on duty.
When you are on call either nights or weekends, there is always at least one nurse working at the same time. The nurses work night shifts and so are on the premises looking after inpatients; they also answer the phones at night & deal initially with the clients, which somewhat takes the pressure off the vets. The nurses work a true night shift so it can be ensured all of the inpatients receive excellent care.
We are looking for a good all-round GP Vet, and you will be covering all routine first opinion small animal work with consults and ops where required. You must be able to cover the basic surgeries.
There is an excellent rate on offer here - If you are interested or would like to apply for this position, please submit your CV and Cover Letter to firstname.lastname@example.org or call Joel Thompson on 0117 329 3900.
