We currently have an excellent opportunity available for an experienced Vet with an interest in exotics to join our client’s practice based in Durham, as a permanent member of staff.
This is a full time, permanent position for a veterinary surgeon in their mixed but mainly (95%) small animal practice, in beautiful county Durham. They have varied interesting caseloads with a vet interested in exotics and another in acupuncture. Very few surgical cases referred, but they have good local referrals for both small and large animals if needed.
Date: Early 2020
Monday to Friday: 8.30am – 6pm (one vet until 6.30pm)
Saturday mornings: 8.30am – 12pm (on rota for 2 vets)
1:4 Weekends to cover any inpatients (not expected to remain in practice overnight- may soon be reduced to 1:5)
4 days per week (with Fridays/Mondays off tied together to give a long weekend, approx. every 4 – 6 weeks)
1 night per week on in-patients
One Friday night care / Saturday surgery only one per month
Rota sympathetically drawn to try to suit specific requests where possible
Must be RCVS registered
What they offer:
Accommodation allowance (£350 / month)
CPD encouraged and funded with allowance and time off to attend courses (£500 + 5 days)
4 weeks holiday + bank holidays (lieu days if on in-patients). Bank holidays shared between all vets. Additional days off for time of service.
Paid sick leave for 6 weeks in any twelve-month period once employed for 12 months
Professional indemnity insurance paid by the practice, RCVS paid personally
Salary according to experience, but new graduates start at £32,400 (including housing allowance)
This is a well-equipped VN training practice, which has recently been expanded. Vets are able to follow their own cases, and professional development such as operating skills encouraged and supported within the practice.
We are looking for a good all-round GP Vet, and you will be covering all routine first opinion small animal work with consults and ops where required. You must be able to cover the basic surgeries including Bitch spays, dog castrates, lump removals among others.
